Tommy came running up to the front porch, grabbing the screen door and giving it a fling. Out of breath, he began to tell his mom that Johnny was just attacked by a mother bear who was protecting her cubs from them. He said, "You have to come, Mom, and help Johnny. He's bleeding pretty bad, we have to get him to the hospital. He's loosing a lot of blood. Please Mom, please come and hurry".
Tommy ran back out the screen door and was going back to help Johnny. Soon Tommy could hear sirens in the air. Thank goodness somebody is coming, Tommy thought to himself. "We need to hurry. Johnny's bleeding really bad and the side of his face is tore up pretty bad. It doesn't look good," Tommy said to the ranger as he was getting out of his jeep. "You gotta hurry, he needs help right away"!
Tommy started to explain what happened to the ranger, but he was too busy helping the other members of the rescue team to listen. Finally Tommy and Johnny's mother arrived while Tommy was still trying to explain what happened that set this whole thing off.
Tommy said to his mother, "Mom, we were over at the edge of the water catching crawdads that were hiding in and under the rocks on the bottom of the river when suddenly, Johnny let out a scream, a terrible scream, like one I've never heard before. When I looked over to see what happened is when I seen him being knocked down by Wild Sheiba. And then she stood on her hind legs and with one swing she hit Johnny's face, all four claws opening large cuts, four inches long, cut all the way to the jaw bone. Johnny was hurt really bad.
The only thing I knew to do was run to the house to get some help. I was scared to death that he wasn't going to be alive when I finally got back from the house with help. I know we'll never go to the river anymore I knew we should be watching for wild Sheiba and her cubs, but they simply skipped my mind. Sheiba bear has always been protective of her cubs. Johnny and I have seen her a number of times fighting with other grizzly's protecting her cubs, we just forgot about them that day".
Johnny and I will always go to the river and catch crawdads, it's what we use for bait when we fish for salmon. When Mom needs blackberries for her pies we'll always come here for the blackberry's. We just need to remember this is the field that Wild Sheiba also uses to find food for her cubs and it's also the river she chooses to fish for salmon and hunt for blackberry's.
After about six months after the attack Johnny was looking better and he was all healed up ready, eager and willing to catch crawdads and pick blackberry's once again, just keeping his eyes open and paying better attention to where Wild Shieba and her cubs were located.now tomy and Johnny now understand why their mother always refered the momma bear as Wild Sheiba.
