Factory Rejects

Factory Rejects can cause death. Several years ago I had a friend who was a single mother. She had given birth to a really cute baby boy who grew to be a very happy eighteen month old. When he began walking and standing on his own the mother bought him a little fire truck in celebration. She did little things like that to celebrate new beginnings in his life. She gave him lots of love. The fire truck was small enough to swallow and that is exactly what he did. The truck cut off his air flow, she found him dead in his crib. I will never forget her anguish from blaming herself for buying him the toy firetruck. She was never right mentally after that. A couple of years later she committed suicide. This bothered me for quite some time, at times it still makes me sad.

Land Of The Gnomes

Brought to you By First 50

Prose...Gnome

To practice writing, pick a topic, any topic, and start writing. Don’t judge, don’t edit, just write. For normal practice, after a certain period of time, perhaps 10 minutes, stop writing. For this blog, you are invited to leave a comment with the first 50 words of your writing on the topic. I’ll pick the topics–you write 50 words

The gnome was always in the flower bed close to where the toadstools grew. He actually lived beneath the toadstools deep into the soil. He'd sit and watch his treasure for hours at a time. He'd never talk about his treasure, but, if you looked close enough he'd have it lying beneath the hood of a toadstool to keep it out of the rain. He wasn't a very big man, but, they never really are. He had pointed ears and he kept his beard combed to a point. He seemed not to be too friendly to strangers, it took me forever to befriend him

If you said hello to him he'd answer but then he'd quickly get too busy to chit chat. Mom loved for him to live in the flower garden just around the corner of the house. She purposely grew meadow ferns because she read somewhere gnomes thrived in and around meadow ferns, so he'd be happy there. He was mostly friendly with fairies because they helped him. If anybody, such as a troll or a leprechaun was coming around the fairies would bring it to his attention. You'd often find a fairy or two somewhere close to his home perched somewhere on a branch of a rose bush or maybe on a bird of paradise.

The blues were belching from the stereo in the car. They were excited to see the group they loved so well. It was obvious thousands of others liked them too, the concert was sold out. Some were turned away, my date’s smart thinking got us the tickets a month early.
